Fix That Darn Wobbly Ceiling Fan

Sometimes the items in our homes need some attention, like a fan that wobbles, and we put off fixing them. In the case of the fan, maybe you put it off because it still sounds ok, and you think you have some time before it causes any real problem. Or perhaps, you just to not know what to do to make it function properly again. Well, say goodbye to the head in the sand attitude, and solve the issue instead of ignoring it.

Now, I am not going to use scare tactics to get you to take action. Not gonna tell you it could detach from the ceiling and come tumbling down on you, nope because I do not need to. Why? Because fixing it is easy enough, and once you know that you will be prompted to act….I hope.

First turn the fan off at the breaker. Use a ladder to put yourself at a level that will allow you to confirm the fan is securely attached. Should you see that it is loose, identify where the problem lies and tighten the screws that need it. Next, check on the blades, are they firmly screwed in, along with the blade mounts? If not, tighten as before. Get down, and turn the fan on again. If it is still not right, turn off at the breaker.

The last thing to check is if the blades are balanced. You will probably be able to discern if any are out of whack by eyeballing it. Gently bend the blade, or blades back to the proper alignment. If things still are not correct, you may have warped blades, and they may need to be replaced.
